Henri Matisse
This was a Henri Matisse lesson that I focused on all day and tried out with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders. The younger grades had a difficult time, the older grades kinda did their own designs, but the 2nd and 3rd graders followed the modeled demonstration and really focused on the use of positive and negative shapes, patterns and design layout. Younger grades might be better using the 2 colors with a symmetry lesson that just flips the cut out images, but that takes 2 seconds, so make sure there is more stuff to do.
